WRITING WORKSHOPS
Kalen teaches Screenwriting and Playwriting workshops for theatre companies, film festivals, public and private schools, and professional organizations. She travels nationally and internationally and has taught workshops for Deaffest (England), Toronto International Deaf Film and Arts Festival (Canada), Deaf Film Camp (New York), and Deaf Spotlight (Seattle, WA).
Book one of Kalen’s workshops and bring Kalen in to teach at your school or organization. She can also custom design writing workshops to fit the goals/objectives of your organization. If there is a specific subject (or skillset) you want to focus on developing, just ask!
WRITE A
10-MINUTE PLAY!
10-minute plays are the thing with countless 10-minute theatre festivals all over the United States and world-wide! Learn how to write a short play, develop compelling characters and conflict—while
adhering to the 10-minute format.
You will:
• Develop compelling characters
• Create a setting
• Explore the dramatic question
• Establish conflict
• Outline the plot
• Practice dialogue writing
• Begin writing pages!
Participants will have an opportunity to have their pages read during the intensive, if they wish.
Note: due to time constraints and number of participants, a limited number of scripts will be read.
SCHEDULING:
Day 1: 10-5pm (includes 1-hr lunch break)

In this workshop, we will focus on the essentials of crafting a good story and how to develop compelling characters, strong conflict, and a satisfying resolution. In addition, we will explore genre & tone and how to write believable dialogue.

• Outline the plot
• Practice dialogue writing
• Begin writing pages!

Kalen Feeney has a Masters in Screenwriting from Leeds Beckett University (England) and a Certificate in Television Writing from UCLA Extensions. Her work was recently selected for the 2018 Writers Guild of America’s Disability Scenes showcase. Kalen has been awarded Fellowships for Film Independent’s Project: Involve (Los Angeles), The Anderson Center Residency Program (Minnesota), and BBC Radio/Graeae Theatre’s New Writers Residency Program (England). Kalen is a member of the Writers Guild of America and has been involved in the WGA’s Writers with Disabilities Committee.
